Meet Our Attorney, Jim Wilson
Jim Wilson
Jim Wilson is the founder and principal attorney of the Wilson Law Group. For over 30 years, he has combined legal talent with an entrepreneurial mindset to help aspiring and well-established business owners start, finance, buy, sell, and run their companies.
A unique business lawyer who blends white-shoe firm expertise with boutique firm dedication and approachability, Jim focuses on helping his clients understand how the law impacts their businesses so they can develop methods of operating where they are in control and find few surprises. Most of his practice is devoted to franchise law, where he helps franchisees make intelligent decisions and franchisors grow their systems. He also works with small businesses to help them secure funding through commercial loans, SBA-guaranteed loans, and private lending.
For three years, Jim conducted monthly briefings for the Richmond SCORE seminar on starting a business, providing information on the legal issues involved with setting up an entity, tax issues for a new business, and other legal areas of concern for the new business owner. He continues to provide these kinds of briefings for the SBA’s Boots2Business and Re-Boot programs for military veterans.
In addition to having written numerous articles for papers, magazines, and websites on small business and franchising issues, Jim is a former Chair of the Henrico County Business Council of the Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce and served on the Board of Governors of the Antitrust, Franchise & Trade Section of the Virginia State Bar.
Jim is exceptionally dedicated to helping veterans start and run their businesses because he is a veteran. His US military service includes 20 years in the Navy and Naval Reserves, primarily flying the EA-6B, including deployments supporting the US airstrikes in Libya (1986) and NATO operations over Bosnia (1997).
